PROJECTS & CASE
COMPETITIONS

Throughout the semester, students can develop their skills through projects and case competitions.

1st YEAR PROJECTS

Posters, Magazine Spreads, Infographic Resumes & Online Portfolios

Students learn how to use Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Using these skills they create a magazine spread, student poster, and a creative resume. Throughout the course, students participate in class review sessions to gain valuable feedback and improve upon their projects.

These skills are essential to any marketing student and can be translated to a variety of contexts. For example, students make an online portfolio to showcase their work in BMGT458A. The skills learned and projects created in this course are essential to building a standout portfolio.

Retail Concept Pitches and Online Portfolios

During the first year of the program, students work in a team to create an original retail concept for the College Park business community. This idea is pitched in front of a panel of judges at the end of the semester. It is an ideal opportunity to express their creativity, understand the strategic decisions to be made when design intersects with business, learn how to create personas and customer journey maps based on their target audiences and primary and secondary research plus further develop written and oral communication skills.

Other activities in the first year course include designing an online portfolio to be used for recruitment purposes, critiquing websites based on UX/UI principles, evaluating the wayfinding of public buildings and redesigning goods and services to alleviate the pain points experienced by users and identified through interviews with the users.

Below are some past projects showcasing the wide range of ideas from past cohorts.
